TEETH RECONSTRUCTION: BROKEN, CHIPPED, BLUNT TEETH

At Dr. Nassar Clinic, our specialists offer professional dental reconstruction services for broken, chipped or blunt teeth.

Causes of broken or chipped teeth

The structure of a healthy tooth is extremely solid and durable. However, when an accident results from a blow to the teeth, they can fracture (splinters or shards) with or without damaging the root. On the other hand, if we talk about blunt teeth, the causes are completely different, respectively there is an asymmetry (the upper tooth does not "step" exactly on the corresponding lower tooth) or the teeth become dull due to unconscious neurological causes (gnashing of teeth at night, during sleep).

Finally, another cause for teeth to break is cavities - once they appear and are invisible in the first instance, they gradually undermine the strong structure of the tooth. All that is needed is a strong bite applied to a nut or hazelnut and a tooth fracture occurs.

In summary, the reasons why teeth break, chip or blunt are the following:

  • accidents
  • pressure and / or misalignment of teeth
  • bruxism (gnashing of teeth especially at night, in sleep)
  • caries

Emergency measures in case of accident

It can happen in skiing, cycling or in other circumstances. It can happen to anyone, no matter how long they have cared for their teeth. Here's what to do in the event of an accident when one or more teeth have broken.

If the tooth is broken and the root bleeds:

  1. Gently rinse your mouth with warm water and salt to stop bleeding and disinfect the area.
  2. Do not put your hand and move the tooth in its place - you can damage the ligaments.
  3. Go to the dentist's office urgently to increase the chances of saving the tooth.

If the tooth is completely removed from the alveolus and the root bleeds:

  1. Gently rinse your mouth with warm water and salt to stop bleeding and disinfect the area.
  2. Put the tooth in a container with water and salt. Gently rinse your mouth with water and salt as often as possible.
  3. Go to the dentist's office urgently to replant and save the tooth.

If the tooth is broken and does not bleed:

  • Rinse your mouth with warm water and salt to disinfect your teeth.
  • Until you get to the dental clinic, avoid chewing on the affected side.

Careful!

In any situation, do not try to clean the broken tooth because you can damage the ligaments and lose the tooth permanently. The faster it is treated, the better its chances of survival. Salt is a very good healer and disinfectant, use it as often as possible until you get to the dentist's office.
