We are more and more fascinated by white teeth. Every day we see in movies movies that have shiny teeth and we would like to look like them.
To better understand what type of whitening suits everyone, here is a brief classification of the whitening categories that exist:
1) external whitening / of the visible face of the teeth;
2) internal whitening / of the inside of the tooth, when it changes color, after being treated endodontically.
External bleaching is classified, in turn, as follows:
A) laser bleaching - biolaser
B) whitening with UV lamp
C) bleaching with individual splints
D) bleaching with prefabricated gutters (trade)
The first 2 types of bleaching (A and B) they can be performed only in the dental office, under the supervision of the dentist.
The third type, the one with individual splints (C), has a phase that is performed only in the office, followed by the actual whitening that can be done both at home and at the clinic.
This treatment it is performed only at the dentist. During the consultation, a retroalveolar radiograph of the affected tooth or teeth, the correctness of the endodontic treatment and the post-treatment restoration will be analyzed.
Here there may be several guidelines that will be discussed in detail with the patient. In general, endodontic retreatment of the tooth is recommended, its restoration depending on:
coronary destruction (loss of healthy dental tissue) with coronary obstruction
pivot or crown covering
pivot and crown covering
Any large discrepancies in color are treated complexly, requiring a prosthetic rehabilitation of the frontal group of teeth, to achieve the level of aesthetics desired by the patient.
Whitening treatment it is made at home with hydrogen peroxide (as active substance) which is found in commercial products in different concentrations, whether or not associated with other auxiliary substances. However, the EXPOSURE TIME is more important than the concentration of the substance. The longer it lasts, the less beneficial it is for the health of the enamel. Therefore, it is recommended as the first variant of professional whitening, with LASER.
Commercial products they have different specifications in terms of their use in their own home, from 30-40 minutes to 12 hours.
If you want a teeth whitening, it is important to consult a doctor to find out about any local or general contraindications.
For example, if you have intact teeth, the possible presence of tartar must be analyzed (descaling and brushing are mandatory before teeth whitening) or if there are incipient or already cavities on the teeth.
If the teeth are clogged (existing fillings), keep in mind that they do not whiten and it is very possible to receive the indication to change them after whitening (recommended procedure 2 weeks after whitening, because the release of oxygen molecules influences the adhesion of dental materials).
If the teeth are covered with crowns or veneers, then the aesthetic future is taken into account from several perspectives (including prosthetics), and not just the whitening itself.
The professional laser whitening variant takes about 8 minutes.
The whitening time in the case of the UV lamp is 20 minutes.
The whitening treatment with splints (individual) is 30-40 minutes.
